The Spanish government on Thursday strongly condemned a suicide bombing attack in a hotel in the Somali capital of Mogadishu, which left at least 50 people dead, including three Somali government ministers and two journalists.
Spain’s foreign ministry issued a statement expressing its solidarity with the victims and their relatives, as well as the Somali people and the UN-backed Somali federal government of transition.
Spain also reaffirmed its support for the Somali transitional government’s efforts to combat international terrorism and promote democracy and development in the Horn of Africa nation.
A suicide bomber detonated an explosive device at a graduation ceremony for medical students in a Mogadishu hotel on Thursday, killing at least 50 people, including Somalia’s ministers of education and higher education of health, and injuring about 200 others. Most of the victims were students.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
