Investigators Say Death Appears Suspicious
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police are investigating a 49-year-old woman’s death in a home at 12th Street and Askew Avenue Thursday morning.Capt. Rich Lockhart said that officers were called to the home at 7:11 a.m.KMBC’s Maria Antonia reported that a relative of Halimo Ahmed had gone to the house to help get the children ready for school, and that’s when the 12-year-old and 9-year-old children found their mother unresponsive in her bedroom.”Suddenly, one opens their mama’s room and they find somebody lying in the bed. They came back and said, ‘My mom dead, Mama’s dead,’” the relative told KMBC. “I didn’t see any bruises or any blood, but she probably got killed.”Authorities pronounced Ahmed dead at the scene.Police said her death is being investigated as suspicious because there were signs of foul play.Neighbors told Antonia that Ahmed had lived in the area, which has a number of Somali families, for about 10 years and has four other children.A neighbor said the victim’s husband is a truck driver.”She had some problem with her husband, I don’t know,” the relative said.Ahmed’s children are staying with other relatives.
